Forward LeBron James was reluctant to join the Golden State Warriors because he doubted the club could offer him a genuine chance to win another NBA championship.
The Golden State organization had known for several weeks that James would not be signing with them, even before he finalized his contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. Communication gradually faded as the club’s information suggested that LeBron was leaning toward a different option.
James might have reconsidered his stance on joining Golden State if the team had managed to trade for Jalen Brown or Anthony Davis, but that did not happen.
