Former Italy head coach and current Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti delivered a sharp critique regarding Roberto Mancini’s return to the national team. Mancini, a seasoned coach, was appointed following the rejection of Andrea Pirlo, who was nearly given the job.
“Maldini certainly represented something new, which was absolutely necessary,” Spalletti commented, referring to Paolo Maldini’s appointment as director of the Azzurri.
“But changing the coach was like trying to update the software on an outdated phone — it didn’t work. Instead of buying a new phone, we just kept the old one and never updated it.”
