Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola reflected on Spain’s triumph at the FIFA World Cup, attributing their success to a collective mentality that prioritizes team achievements over individual glory.
“If you look at sports like swimming, boxing, or athletics, Spain rarely wins medals because those are individual competitions. But in team sports, we excel. In football, basketball, and handball, we consistently field strong teams. That’s because we always put the team first,” Iraola explained.
To illustrate his point, Iraola cited Manchester City’s midfielder Rodri, who was named the best player of the World Cup.
“Rodri is a perfect example. He didn’t score or assist any goals, yet his team won the World Cup, and he was awarded the tournament’s best player. The ‘team first’ principle has always been deeply ingrained in our development,” he added.
