The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the Argentine Football Association due to the conduct of the Argentina national team during the 2026 World Cup matches, according to official FIFA sources.
These proceedings concern potential violations of Article 13, paragraph 2(c) (using a sporting event for demonstrations of an unsporting nature), Article 14, paragraph 5 (improper conduct by a team), Article 15 (discrimination and racist behavior), and Article 17 (FIFA regulations).
The grounds for opening the proceedings include discriminatory chants and gestures, delays in match kickoffs, failure to comply with match protocols and safety requirements, the display of unacceptable messages by the team and fans, as well as objects being thrown by supporters during several matches involving Argentina at the World Cup.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee received a report from the appointed disciplinary and ethics prosecutor regarding incidents that occurred during the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Spain and Argentina.
Based on the recommendations outlined in this report, disciplinary cases have been opened for:
– Possible breaches of Article 14, paragraph 1(i) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (assault/physical violence) concerning Argentine players Nahuel Molina (two incidents: one completed and one attempted), Leandro Paredes (three incidents), and an official representative of the team;
– Possible breaches of Article 14, paragraph 1(b) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (unsporting behavior) involving Argentine players Nahuel Molina (one incident) and Thiago Almada (one incident), as well as Spanish player Pablo Martino Paed.
In line with the FIFA Disciplinary Code, those subject to the proceedings have been given the opportunity to present their position. After reviewing their statements, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee will issue a ruling in due course.
