The Court of Arbitration for Sport has upheld the appeal filed by Chelsea and Mikhail Mudryk, overturning the initial four-year ban imposed on the Ukrainian midfielder. Mudryk has now been officially cleared to resume his professional career without any further restrictions.
The tribunal ruled that the period of enforced inactivity, which the player has already served since November 2024, constitutes a proportionate and sufficient sanction. This legal decision enables the winger to immediately join Chelsea’s preseason tour.
The original severe suspension by the Football Association of England was triggered by a positive test for meldonium. The contested sample was taken during an out-of-competition period in October 2024 while Mudryk was with the national team.
A pivotal factor in the arbitrators’ judgment was the recent update to the World Anti-Doping Agency’s technical standards. The court highlighted that the concentration of the substance detected in Mudryk’s system was extremely low. Under the current WADA medical protocols, such a chemical level is no longer considered a violation of the regulations.
