Harry Kane, the striker for Bayern Munich and the England national team, believes his goal-scoring exploits last season give him a legitimate claim to the Ballon d’Or. Kane netted 73 goals across all competitions, marking the second-highest tally in history behind only Lionel Messi.
In an interview with Marca, Kane admitted he is not one to boast about his achievements but described the previous season as the best of his career.
“I’ve never been one to talk about myself too much. The only thing I can say is that last season was incredible—both personally and for the team. It was undoubtedly the best season of my life,” Kane said.
“Scoring 73 goals—the second-best record ever—speaks for itself. I’m extremely proud of that and can only thank my teammates and everyone who helped me reach that milestone,” the forward added.
Nevertheless, Kane emphasized that the final decision on the Ballon d’Or winner rests with the voters.
“The Ballon d’Or isn’t in my hands. It all depends on those who vote. For me, last season is already behind me. Right now, I’m focused on the current season and eager to see what else I can achieve. I know there will be a lot of talk about the Ballon d’Or until October because it’s such a prestigious award,” the Englishman noted.
