Italy head coach Roberto Mancini shared his thoughts ahead of today’s UEFA Nations League clash against Turkey. The match is set to kick off at 19:45 UTC.
“We know that our start in the Nations League hasn’t been ideal, and whether this journey will be long or short, I can’t say,” Mancini told RAI Sport. “Certainly, it will take some time, especially since we’ve only had two training sessions between matches, one of which was focused on recovery. Still, I don’t see time as an enemy right now.
We shouldn’t treat this as a do-or-die relegation playoff. We need to approach this game and then see what unfolds in the group.
Since we’re competing in the Nations League, we can afford to take some risks. I don’t understand why, in the past, when we reached the Nations League finals twice, it didn’t generate much excitement.
Nowadays, people act as if the Nations League is the most important event in the world. It can be significant because we want to reach the Final Four, but we know we’re in a tough group and still have five matches to play.”
