Tottenham CEO Vows Support for De Zerbi Despite Winless Start
Tottenham Hotspur CEO Vinay Venkatraman has voiced his support for head coach Roberto De Zerbi amid the club’s disappointing start to the new season. The Spurs currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table, having yet to secure a win after five matches.
Despite the poor results, Venkatraman highlighted the “fundamental aspects of the team’s play,” pointing out that Tottenham created numerous good chances but failed to score in their games against Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, and Everton.
Speaking at the first Fan Advisory Board meeting of the season, Venkatraman expressed cautious optimism, stating he was “encouraged by certain facets of the team’s performance.” However, he also acknowledged the frustration surrounding the current points tally, even this early in the campaign.
The CEO reaffirmed his confidence in De Zerbi and the revamped squad following 10 summer signings, including the loan arrival of Ukrainian midfielder Mykhailo Mudryk from Chelsea.
“The club made significant changes both on and off the pitch during the summer, fully aware that it might take time for these to have their full effect,” Venkatraman told The Independent.
It was also confirmed that Tottenham’s coaching staff, which includes departments for medical care, fitness, and sports performance, has undergone “major changes” aimed at addressing the high injury rate. Additionally, improvements have been made to the training ground facilities to support the team’s recovery and preparation.
