World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz will miss the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, USA, due to an extended recovery period from a wrist injury, according to Public Sport.
The 23-year-old Spaniard’s withdrawal from the Ohio event casts doubt over his participation in the upcoming US Open, where he is set to defend his title, the portal reports, citing tournament director Bob Moran.
Tournament organizers of the Cincinnati Open have officially confirmed that the reigning champion will not be able to compete in Ohio because the timeline for his rehabilitation remains uncertain.
“We know Carlos is doing everything possible to return to competition as soon as he can. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to Cincinnati in the future,” Moran stated.
Alcaraz has missed several key tournaments this season due to his wrist injury, including being unable to defend his Roland Garros title and missing Wimbledon.
The Cincinnati event was expected to mark the Spaniard’s first official tournament appearance after a four-month hiatus.
