The Denver Nuggets are unlikely to retain restricted free agent forward Payton Watson and are expected to trade him via a sign-and-trade deal, according to insider Brett Siegel.
Denver offered Watson a five-year contract worth $70 million, but the player considers the offer disrespectful and is seeking a minimum of $25 million per season. Significant interest in Watson has emerged from the Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Los Angeles Clippers.
Following the stalled negotiations with Watson, the Nuggets are now targeting six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan, who does not anticipate a large salary after being waived by the Sacramento Kings.
