Alexander Blessin has been appointed as the new head coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 53-year-old signed a contract with the club that runs until 2028. His official presentation is scheduled for Wednesday.
Blessin was born in 1973 in Stuttgart. He began his coaching career within the RB Leipzig system. Starting in 2012, he served as assistant coach for the U17 team before taking over as head coach. Blessin was brought to Leipzig by Ralf Rangnick, who had previously worked with him in Stuttgart.
In the 2024/25 season, Blessin took charge of St. Pauli, a club newly promoted to the Bundesliga. He successfully adapted the team to the higher level of competition and achieved the primary goal of the season: securing their place in the top flight.
However, St. Pauli was unable to replicate this success in the following season. After the club’s relegation from the Bundesliga, they decided to part ways with Blessin, who will now continue his coaching career at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
