Yamal Confident as Spain Set to Face Ronaldo in World Cup Round of 16
Spain’s captain Lamin Yamal expressed confidence in his team’s prospects at the 2026 World Cup after securing a spot in the round of 16 with a 3-0 victory over Austria.
Luis de la Fuente’s side delivered an impressive performance on Thursday, comfortably defeating Ralf Rangnick’s squad thanks to two goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and a strike by Pedro Porro.
When asked about his feelings regarding the team’s potential and the opportunity to face Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates, Yamal responded, “We need to keep improving, both in our play and intensity, but we know the quality we have and we’re not afraid of any team; we are Spain. We have to show that on the pitch, but we believe in ourselves.”
Portugal is set to face Spain on July 6.
“For me, it would be an honor to play against Cristiano, that’s obvious, but my focus is on winning and I don’t care who advances.”
