Liam Gallagher Defends Manchester City Amidst Financial Fair Play Controversy
Liam Gallagher, the lead singer of the English band Oasis, has come out in defense of Manchester City following a ruling by an independent Premier League commission. The musician has been a lifelong supporter of the Citizens.
The Premier League previously stated that Manchester City “systematically breached regulations for nearly a decade.” Among the commission’s findings was that the club had entered into “sham contracts” with several commercial partners as part of a scheme to conceal secret funding exceeding £830 million.
Gallagher responded to the backlash by writing, “All this hatred directed at Manchester City from other clubs should be aimed at Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool instead. They are the ones who are corrupt and trying to stop other teams from winning, not Manchester City. We’ve been trying to help you all; we are like Jesus, ready to die on the cross.”
According to sources cited by BBC Sport, Manchester City intends to argue in their appeal that the key sponsorship deals were funded by the Abu Dhabi government rather than the club’s owners.
