Valverde Breaks Silence After Uruguay’s Early World Cup Exit
Seven days after Uruguay’s exit from the 2026 World Cup, team captain Federico Valverde has broken his silence.
“Several days have passed since our elimination, and only now am I beginning to process everything I went through, although I understand that a part of me may never fully overcome another first-round exit like the one I experienced at the World Cup in Qatar. This thorn still haunts me,” Valverde opened his message to the fans.
“I did everything in my power: I prepared physically and emotionally and tried not to repeat what happened by working hard throughout the entire season. But obviously, it wasn’t enough.
I accept the defeat. I take full responsibility for not fulfilling my duty to the national team and to all of you. I own the failure and know that I did not succeed in the task.
But under no circumstances will I refuse to represent my country, even if it costs me my life. I don’t know how or when, but I swear on my life that I will not leave this team without bringing it back to the top,” the Uruguayan made a powerful declaration.
