According to information from basket.com.ua and their own sources within the national team, 24-year-old guard Maks Shulga will join the Ukrainian national team’s training camp in August as part of preparations for the second stage of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Montenegro.
As a reminder, on August 28, Ukraine will host Greece in a nominally home match of the second stage of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers in Riga. Then, on August 31, Ukraine will face Montenegro away.

Before the official matches begin, Ainars Bagatskis’ team will also play two friendly games — one against Arizona and another against the Latvian national team.
This call-up will mark Shulga’s first appearance in the Ukrainian national team. The guard is a product of Ukrainian basketball but moved to Spain at the age of 11, where he continued his education and basketball development within local club systems.
Later, Shulga relocated to the United States, competing in the NCAA for Utah State and VCU. At the 2025 NBA Draft, he was selected 57th overall by the Orlando Magic, after which his rights were transferred to the Boston Celtics.
In the 2025/26 season, Shulga played 11 regular-season NBA games and two playoff matches for Boston. He spent most of the season with the Maine Celtics in the G League, averaging 15.7 points and 6.7 assists per game. This summer, Shulga also won the NBA Summer League with the Golden State Warriors.
Recently, it was announced that the Ukrainian guard will continue his career with Real Madrid in Spain.
