Former NBA player JR Smith has been arrested in Texas on charges of assault causing bodily injury, related to a domestic violence case.
Smith was taken into custody by police in the city of Royse after authorities received a warrant issued by Southlake police.
The Southlake police department, which is treating the case as part of an ongoing investigation, has not released further details. Smith is expected to appear before the Tarrant County court.
This is not the first time Smith has faced legal issues. In 2007, he spent 24 days in jail following a reckless driving charge. At that time, Smith was involved in a car accident that resulted in the death of one of his passengers.
Smith played in the NBA from 2004 to 2020, appearing in a total of 977 games and winning two championship titles, both alongside LeBron James: with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
During the 2012/13 season, Smith earned the Sixth Man of the Year award.
