The Argentine Football Association has officially decided to commemorate their dramatic 2-1 victory over England in the 2026 World Cup semifinal.
Officials confirmed that the decision honors the remarkable comeback that sparked nationwide jubilation. Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez scored in the final five minutes to complete the stunning turnaround in favor of Argentina.
Argentina went on to face Spain in the final, where they ultimately lost, but the win against England in the semifinal remains one of the standout moments of their tournament run.
The Argentine Football Association announced that July 15 will be designated as the “National Football Teams Day.” Officials confirmed that the decision was unanimously approved at the executive council meeting held on Wednesday at AFA.
Explaining the move, AFA stated in their release: “The date was chosen to honor the great and historic victory of the Albiceleste over England in the 2026 World Cup semifinal.”
