Barcelona’s head coach Hansi Flick personally reached out to Spain captain Rodri to present his vision and persuade him to move from Manchester City to the Catalan club, according to Sport citing anonymous sources.
This direct approach reportedly shifted Rodri’s stance, leading him to consider Barcelona after negotiations with Real Madrid stalled over transfer fees and player conditions.
While Manchester City initially demanded $86.5 million, Rodri’s price tag has since dropped to between $70 and $75 million, making him more attainable for Barcelona. However, his substantial wage demands remain a significant obstacle.
Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has maintained ongoing communication with Rodri’s representatives and a senior Manchester City official, but Flick’s personal call also helped dispel any doubts the Ballon d’Or holder might have had.
