Arteta Emphasizes Eliminating Surprises on Matchday for Arsenal
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta continues to impress with his unconventional coaching methods. Following the victory over Napoli in the Champions League, which came after a three-hour flight delay, the Spanish manager revealed that he had deliberately prepared his squad for such stressful situations during the summer preseason.
“I enjoy these kinds of challenges and try to create them during preseason training. If a train is delayed or we get stuck in traffic, I don’t want the players or staff to panic. We delayed departures and meal times, altered routes, removed massage tables, and raised the temperature in the dressing room. It’s crucial that on match day there are no surprises or stress,” explained the red-and-white side’s manager.
Previously, the inventive London-based coach had hired a pickpocket to test his players’ alertness during a team dinner, played the Liverpool anthem during training sessions, and used a light bulb on the training rig as a symbol of energy.
