Tottenham defender Cristian Romero is reportedly close to securing a move to Atlético Madrid. Insider Nicolo Schira revealed on X that a preliminary agreement has been reached between Romero and Atlético for a contract running until 2030, worth €6 million per year, with an option to extend through 2031.
Atlético Madrid is currently negotiating with Tottenham to finalize the transfer. Tottenham is demanding a fee in the range of €40-45 million for the central defender, who has already expressed his desire to be sold, according to Schira.
Earlier reports indicated that Inter Milan had shown strong interest in Romero, aiming to build a solid defensive partnership between him and John Stones, whom they signed in July. However, it appears that this promising plan is unlikely to come to fruition.
