FIFA Upholds Suspension of US Forward Folarin Balogun for World Cup Round of 16
FIFA has confirmed the final decision regarding the suspension of United States forward Folarin Balogun. The top scorer for the American team will miss the Round of 16 clash against Belgium. Balogun, who plays for Monaco, received a controversial red card in the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina after accidentally stepping on an opponent’s ankle.
The United States had hoped for the suspension to be overturned, but their appeal was unsuccessful. The Americans secured their place in the knockout stage with a 2-0 victory, in which Balogun opened the scoring, netting his third goal of the tournament, and Malik Tillman sealed the win with a free-kick. On Monday, the hosts will have to cope without their key player as they aim to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002.
