France has confirmed its intention to participate in the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup next month, despite UEFA’s threat to boycott FIFA competitions.
This development follows FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s announcement of plans to sell stakes in FIFA tournaments to private investors. In response, 55 European football associations voted to boycott all FIFA events until these proposals are withdrawn.
UEFA reiterated the continuation of the boycott in a statement released on Thursday. However, when approached by BBC Sport, the French Football Federation (FFF) declared that their plans for the tournament remain unchanged.
“At this time, France will participate in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup,” the FFF confirmed.
The tournament will feature six European teams: England, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and hosts Poland. The opening match is scheduled for September 5.
