England captain Harry Kane, who missed a penalty while his team was leading 2-1 in their 3-2 defeat against Spain, reflected on the opening UEFA Nations League match in an interview with ITV.
“At the World Cup, we showed a good level of play, but we couldn’t sustain it for the full 90 minutes. Today was similar, although we had a spell where we performed at a level we haven’t reached in a long time. That’s what we’re capable of achieving. We were up against the reigning world and European champions and matched them on equal terms. I’m confident that if circumstances had been different, we would have won this game. We have to focus on the positives. Of course, it’s frustrating now, but we need to recover and keep moving forward,” Kane said.
