The English Premier League has officially found Manchester City guilty on all charges related to breaches of Premier League financial regulations spanning from the 2009-10 to the 2017-18 seasons. An independent commission determined that during this period, the club engaged in “fictitious contracts” with several commercial partners and used these fabricated agreements to artificially inflate the club’s revenues while reducing its expenses.
The following violations by Manchester City were confirmed:
– The club entered into “fictitious” contracts that distorted the true nature of agreements with various commercial partners, relying on these sham deals to artificially boost income and lower reported costs.
– Manchester City submitted financial reports containing misleading information, concealing the actual state of its finances from auditors and football regulatory bodies.
– The club significantly breached spending limits set by both the Premier League and UEFA.
– During the Premier League’s investigation, Manchester City repeatedly failed to cooperate fully and uphold the principle of utmost good faith towards the League, with three out of four alleged breaches of these duties being proven.
It is important to note that Manchester City retains the right to appeal the independent commission’s findings and must exercise this right by Friday, October 2.
