Ajax Amsterdam’s press office has confirmed the signing of German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen. The shot-stopper has joined the Dutch club on loan until the end of the current season.
Ter Stegen has been with Barcelona since 2014 and remains officially contracted to the Spanish side. However, after a falling out with coach Hansi Flick, his opportunities to feature in the team have dried up. He spent the second half of the 2025/2026 season on loan at Girona but managed only two appearances due to injury. It is worth noting that Ajax’s current manager, Michel, previously coached Girona.
Ter Stegen faces a challenging task in Amsterdam. Ajax are going through a difficult period, having finished just 5th in the Eredivisie last season. Consequently, the club will be competing in the UEFA Conference League rather than the Champions League or Europa League this term.
