Giuseppe Marotta, president of Inter Milan, expressed the club’s commitment to preserving the legacy of Sandro Mazzola, the legendary former player who passed away yesterday at the age of 83.

“A legendary Inter player has left us. He wore only one jersey throughout his career, playing 17 consecutive seasons—dedicating his entire life to the club,” Marotta said.

“He helped write truly remarkable chapters in Inter’s history, especially during the era of the great teams led by Helenio Herrera and Angelo Moratti. Today, as a club, we have a duty to immortalize the memory of this icon because his values are something we must pass on through his example to the new generation and all our youth players.”

Mazzola featured in 565 matches for Inter over 17 seasons, scoring 158 goals. Throughout his career, he won four Serie A titles and two European Cups with the Milanese club, never playing for another team. Internationally, Mazzola earned 70 caps for Italy, winning the 1968 European Championship and reaching the final of the 1970 World Cup.
