Martin Ødegaard, the captain of the Norway national team, spoke out about the rough foul committed by Bernardo Silva during stoppage time in the match where Norway lost 1-2 to Portugal:
“I took a hit to the ankle. Probably tonight won’t be great, but I hope it improves over the next few days. His behavior was completely unnecessary. He just knocked me down after I had already passed the ball. I don’t understand what he was doing. There’s no place for that on a football pitch. It’s a shame people act like that, but that’s life.”
Silva, who came on as a substitute late in the game for Portugal, received a yellow card for the foul and did not apologize. When asked about the incident after the match, he remarked, “It’s football, my friend.”
