Mbappé and Messi Lead World Cup in Shots on Goal
Mbappé and Messi are not only competing for the top scorer title at the World Cup but also in various secondary attacking statistics.
The French forward shares the lead among all players in the tournament for the number of shots on goal, with 16 attempts. Only Kevin De Bruyne matches him in this regard.
Messi has taken 13 shots, fewer than Mbappé, but he has played one match less. This means that in terms of average shots per game, the Argentine leads the World Cup. Additionally, Messi outperforms Mbappé in shot accuracy, hitting the target 8 times out of 13 attempts compared to Mbappé’s 9 out of 16.
Since Messi is likely to miss the final group stage match, the direct contest between him and Mbappé will probably be decided in the knockout rounds.
