Mexico Coach Reveals Key to Team’s Strength
The head coach of the Mexican national team spoke after the victory over South Korea (1:0) in today’s match of the 2026 World Cup. The three points allowed the hosts of the World Cup to advance to the playoffs, where they will play at the Azteca Stadium.
“I don’t like to depend on others; if you don’t speak up, no one else will do it for you. But the players knew that if we beat South Korea, we would top the group table and play at the Azteca, which is simply incredible for us.
The Azteca factor is very important. Playing there is significant for the entire Mexican republic, so of course, I am happy. We are guaranteed two more games on home soil, and if we continue to progress, who knows how far we can go?
Why are we so strong now? I have become much calmer, more relaxed, and more balanced. We were joking here the other day, and Guillermo Ochoa said that at other World Cups I wouldn’t have behaved like this, but now it doesn’t bother me that they constantly use smartphones. Last time I was fixated on this, but now I no longer waste time on such things. As a coach, I have become more relaxed.
