Former Croatia defender Darijo Srna believes his national team has what it takes to challenge any opponent ahead of their highly anticipated World Cup clash with England.
The match is scheduled for June 17 and is expected to be one of the standout fixtures of the tournament’s group stage.
Speaking about England, Srna praised head coach Thomas Tuchel and acknowledged the quality within the Three Lions squad.
“I know Tuchel very well as a coach and have great respect for him. He is undoubtedly one of the best managers in the world and proved that during his time at Chelsea. I don’t know how things will unfold with the national team at the World Cup, but he deserves enormous respect, as does the England squad,” Srna said.
Despite recognizing England’s strength, the former captain expects a closely contested encounter.
“We respect England, but I think it will be a very difficult game for both teams. In my opinion, the chances are 50-50. Croatia have a strong and balanced squad, combining experienced players with talented young footballers.”
Srna also highlighted Croatia’s impressive performances in major tournaments over the past several years and urged fans not to place unrealistic expectations on the team.
“It is unfair to put too much pressure on Croatia. We are a small country and cannot be expected to achieve extraordinary results at every World Cup or European Championship. We should enjoy supporting this team. However, Croatia remain a very dangerous opponent for everyone,” he concluded.
