NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addressed the annual press conference following the board of governors meeting, revealing ongoing talks with the EuroLeague as part of plans to establish a new tournament in Europe.
“This is a historic opportunity, and we need to elevate to a new level. We are making progress in negotiations with the EuroLeague and expect to make further announcements in the coming weeks. It’s not guaranteed to happen, but it would be better for all of us if we present a united front in Europe,” Silver stated.
Earlier reports indicated that the NBA might not pursue launching a separate European league from scratch. Instead, it is considering acquiring the existing competition by financially absorbing the EuroLeague and enhancing its structure using the NBA’s marketing expertise.
