Legendary Italian coach Fabio Capello has expressed doubts over AC Milan’s reported decision to appoint Ruben Amorim as the club’s next head coach.
The Portuguese manager is expected to replace Massimiliano Allegri, but Capello believes the appointment carries significant uncertainty for both parties.
“I’ve heard many different names linked with the job, and they all have completely different profiles, styles, and ideas,” Capello said. “To me, that reflects the confusion that currently surrounds Milan.”
The former Milan manager admitted that Amorim impressed him during his time in Lisbon but stressed that his recent spell in Manchester cannot be ignored when evaluating the coach.
“Amorim convinced me with the work he did in Portugal, but you also have to consider what happened in Manchester. It feels like a gamble at the moment,” he added.
Capello emphasized that managing Milan requires an understanding of the club’s traditions and expectations.
“He must understand that Milan is a club with a great history that deserves respect. Results must match the stature of the club. In Manchester, he struggled to establish the right connection with the players. At Milan, that will be essential.”
The veteran coach also pointed out that the success of any new manager will depend heavily on the quality of the squad available.
“In many ways, this is a leap into the unknown for both sides. Milan are hiring a coach unfamiliar with Serie A, while Amorim needs to rebuild his reputation after a disappointing experience.”
