Former German footballer Miroslav Klose reacted to the news that Lionel Messi matched his record for goals scored at the FIFA World Cup. The Argentine forward recently scored a hat-trick in a match against Algeria (3–0). He now has 16 World Cup goals — the same number that had belonged to Klose and stood as the record for many years.
“I have nothing against Messi catching up with me in terms of goals. Records are there to be broken. I would be happy if Messi did it. I have always been a huge fan of Messi — he is a genius,” Klose said, according to Ole.
Next in the rankings is the legendary Brazilian striker Ronaldo Nazário with 15 goals, followed by German football legend Gerd Müller and current Kylian Mbappé. Both Müller and Mbappé have scored 14 World Cup goals.
