The England national football team are considering arranging an additional match during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to the BBC, the team is in talks with Sporting Kansas City over holding a closed-door friendly match between their group-stage games against Croatia national football team and Ghana national football team.

If the match goes ahead, England would become the first national team in history to play a friendly during the World Cup itself, according to the report.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed that the idea is being discussed.

“It’s true that we are trying to organise an internal match after the game against Croatia. It’s all about using the time effectively. We have many days between matches, and we can give players who receive limited playing time or do not play at all the necessary workload in a real match environment rather than just in training,” Tuchel said.

England will face Croatia on June 17, with their match against Ghana scheduled six days later.
