Spain returned to training at their Chattanooga base on Tuesday, one day after a surprising 0-0 draw against Cape Verde in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The only player absent from the training pitch was Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino. However, Spanish media reports indicate there is no injury concern, as the midfielder was scheduled to attend a press conference and media activities instead.

A total of 25 players took part in the section of training open to reporters. Observers noted a noticeably more serious atmosphere within the squad following the disappointing result, which has increased pressure ahead of Spain’s next fixture.

One player attracting attention was Lamine Yamal, who came off the bench against Cape Verde but was unable to help Spain secure a victory. The young winger appeared focused and subdued during the session as the team continued preparations for their upcoming match.

Spain will now turn their attention to Sunday’s clash with Saudi Arabia, knowing that a positive result could be crucial for their hopes of progressing comfortably from the group stage.

After dropping points in their tournament opener, Luis de la Fuente’s side will be eager to deliver a stronger performance and get their World Cup campaign back on track.
