Sporting opened the second round of the new Portuguese league season yesterday, August 14, with a home match against Vitoria Guimaraes.
During the first half, the hosts dominated completely, with goals from Goncalves, Yiannidis, and Altimira putting Sporting firmly in control. However, the team relaxed too early. In the middle of the second half, Vitoria struck back quickly, scoring twice within two minutes through Samu and Ndoye.
Despite the late pressure, Sporting managed to hold on to their lead and secure their first victory of the season, which propelled them to the top of the league table with four points.
