Ahead of the UEFA Super Cup clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa, UEFA arranged a joint interview with the two head coaches. This provided Unai Emery an opportunity to discuss his relationship with Luis Enrique and, above all, to praise the exceptional work done by the Parisian manager.
The former PSG coach, now leading Aston Villa, believes that the career paths of the two managers share many similarities. He particularly highlighted the consistency and achievements Luis Enrique has accomplished since arriving in Paris: “His coaching career is very similar to mine. He managed the team during one of Barcelona’s most glorious periods, and today, among all the coaches who have led PSG, he is the one who has achieved the greatest stability and success. I think Luis Enrique is a very strong personality.”
Emery described his counterpart as “unique, determined, and his team reflects that: they are winners. He is doing a job that, at this moment, we can only try to replicate. I believe that alongside Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique is currently the best coach in the world.”
The UEFA Super Cup will be contested on Wednesday, 12 August, at the Red Bull Arena in Wals-Siezenheim, Austria.
