International matches are already taking their toll with injuries. Kai Havertz lasted only 30 minutes in Germany’s Nations League clash against the Netherlands on Thursday evening before being substituted.
The Arsenal forward started in Jürgen Klopp‘s first match as national team coach, but his outing was cut short after receiving a knee strike from Quinten Timber—the twin brother of his Arsenal teammate Jurrien Timber.
Medical staff from the German team attended to Havertz on the pitch, and he was able to leave the field on his own before being replaced by Younes Ebnoutalib. He then headed straight to the tunnel, with cameras capturing him walking down the stairs to the dressing room without apparent difficulty.
Neither Germany nor Arsenal have confirmed the severity of the injury, and the fact that the 27-year-old moved without visible discomfort helps ease concerns.
Havertz was not the only player forced off early in the Rotterdam match. Sunderland striker Bryan Brobbey was also substituted in the first half due to what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
