Serena Williams’ return to doubles at Wimbledon is now uncertain after she suffered a knee injury during her first official singles match in four years.
The 44-year-old tennis star was defeated by 20-year-old Maia Jaušovec with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 late Tuesday evening on Centre Court.
Williams did not attend the mandatory post-match press conference, and it later emerged that she had experienced a knee issue during the match, which required extended treatment from a physiotherapist.
She was scheduled to partner with her sister Venus in the doubles competition, but her participation is now in serious doubt.
