French player Silven Francisco has explained his decision to join Panathinaikos. Earlier this summer, the playmaker signed with ASVEL, but Tony Parker’s team was unable to guarantee full payment of his contract.
“I know that Željko Obradović is a legendary coach. Being close to him and learning more from him is very important to me—I can’t wait!”
“I feel really good, fantastic actually. I’m very happy to be here and I enjoy returning to Greece (Francisco previously played for Peristeri a few years ago), but also to be part of Europe’s biggest club. I look forward to meeting my teammates and everyone else.”
“I’m very pleased that, together with my representatives, we managed to get me where I wanted to go. At the same time, the Panathinaikos staff did an excellent job. Everything happened very quickly. I feel the transfer and the entire process were completed very fast. And now I’m here, so it’s great.”
He was also asked whether having Gershon Yabusele, Matthias Lessort, and Moustapha Fall—players he has crossed paths with in the French national team—at the Athens club influenced his decision.
“Those guys have been really important to me. I mostly communicated with them. We have great chemistry, especially in the national team. Having that at the club level is very important. For me, it will be really enjoyable, but at the same time, we will be completely serious about doing our jobs. And that’s what matters most.”
