The Los Angeles Lakers NBA franchise has been sold for over $12 billion. The buyers are American businessmen Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, the younger brother of Jared Kushner, who is Donald Trump’s son-in-law.
This deal, exceeding $12 billion, establishes the Lakers as the most valuable sports franchise in U.S. history. The previous record was also held by the California club—just a year ago, Jeanie Buss sold the team to Mark Walter for $10 billion. The new price nearly doubles the previous highest transaction in American sports, which was the sale of the Boston Celtics for $6.1 billion.
Kushner and Iger had previously been involved in the NBA’s expansion efforts in Las Vegas, but they unexpectedly made an aggressive bid to acquire the Lakers from Mark Walter, who had relatively recently secured a controlling stake from the Buss family.
