Isaiah Hartenstein is set to return to the Germany national basketball team after more than eight years away. The big man explained the reasons behind his long absence from the national squad.
“I actually wanted to play over the last two years. During the first four or five years, I needed to prove myself in the NBA. It was important for me to understand what teams thought and how I could establish myself there. I was often told to stay and keep training.
But now that I have firmly secured my place in the NBA and found my role, I have always wanted to represent the national team and give back,” he said.
Alongside his national team commitments, Hartenstein maintains a close connection with German basketball as an active investor in the Ratiopharm Ulm club. He regularly participates in club and youth development events.
The 28-year-old big man played a key role in helping the Oklahoma City Thunder win the NBA championship in the 2024/25 season.
He last donned the national team jersey in February 2018 during a 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifying match against Georgia.
