The Timberwolves will retire the No. 21 jersey, famously worn by Kevin Garnett. The ceremony is scheduled for February 28, 2027, following the game against the Celtics.
Garnett will become only the second player in franchise history to have his number retired, joining the late former teammate Malik Sealy, whose No. 2 was retired in 2000.
Sealy played for the club from 1998 to 2000. Tragically, he died in a car accident on May 20, 2000, while returning from Kevin Garnett’s birthday celebration. After being traded from Boston to Brooklyn in July 2013, Garnett changed his jersey number to No. 2 in honor of Sealy.
Kevin Garnett was a Timberwolves player from 1995 to 2007 and returned to the Wolves during the 2015–16 season. He helped lead the team to the playoffs for eight seasons.
The Timberwolves joined the NBA in 1988, with Garnett becoming the franchise’s first star player in its history.
