Omar El Dafrawy added another important victory to his résumé at PFL New York, earning a unanimous decision over Jonathan Piersma after three competitive rounds. While the fight never produced a dramatic finish, El Dafrawy consistently imposed his style, mixing timely takedowns with solid positional control to secure scores of 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28. It was the type of disciplined performance that rarely makes highlight reels but often wins championships.

Piersma opened the fight aggressively, looking to establish his jab and keep the action at boxing range. The American had moments of success early, landing a handful of clean combinations whenever he created space. El Dafrawy, however, refused to engage in a striking battle for long. Instead, he repeatedly closed the distance, forced clinch exchanges against the fence, and made Piersma work every second of the opening round. Even when the takedowns didn’t immediately come, the constant pressure prevented Piersma from finding any real rhythm.

The second round was where El Dafrawy began to separate himself. His wrestling became more effective, and once he secured top position, he stayed active enough to leave a strong impression on the judges. Piersma defended well and scrambled back to his feet on multiple occasions, but every escape seemed to lead directly into another clinch or another takedown attempt. It wasn’t overwhelming domination, yet El Dafrawy controlled where the fight took place for most of the round and steadily built his lead on the scorecards.

Knowing he likely needed a finish entering the final five minutes, Piersma increased his output and tried to force more striking exchanges. El Dafrawy never lost his composure. Rather than chasing unnecessary exchanges, he relied on the same formula that had worked throughout the fight—pressure, wrestling, and positional control. Even when Piersma landed clean shots, El Dafrawy answered by tying him up, slowing the pace, and keeping the fight in positions that favored his grappling. It was a smart veteran approach that denied his opponent any chance of mounting a late comeback.

When the final horn sounded, the outcome felt straightforward. El Dafrawy’s ability to dictate the pace, secure takedowns, and control key moments earned him a unanimous decision and another valuable win in the PFL welterweight division. Piersma had flashes of success on the feet and never stopped competing, but he simply spent too much of the fight reacting to El Dafrawy’s pressure. It wasn’t the flashiest performance of the night, but it was another reminder that efficient wrestling and disciplined fight management remain some of the most reliable paths to victory in mixed martial arts.
