Alexander Isak has left the Sweden national team camp and returned to Liverpool for further medical evaluation after sustaining an injury during international duty.
The 27-year-old forward had started the season strongly, netting four goals in his first six appearances for the Reds. He maintained his impressive form during the international break, scoring in Sweden’s opening UEFA Nations League match against Romania, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the Swedes.
However, Isak suffered a toe injury during the game against Romania, despite completing the full 90 minutes. Liverpool confirmed that the player would return to their AXA training facility for additional assessment following his departure from the Sweden squad.
In an official club statement, Liverpool said: “Alexander Isak is returning to Liverpool from the national team due to a minor injury. The forward will miss Sweden’s remaining three fixtures during the current international break and will undergo medical examinations with the club’s staff at the AXA training base.”
It is worth noting that the Premier League season resumes for Liverpool on Sunday, 11 October, when they host Manchester City at Anfield.
