Bruno Fernandes Withdrawn from Portugal Squad Ahead of Nations League Match
Manchester United‘s concerns about the fitness of Bruno Fernandes have been confirmed, as the midfielder was omitted from Portugal’s squad for today’s UEFA Nations League clash against Norway.
Both teams are required to submit their official lineups to UEFA on matchday, and Fernandes’ name was notably absent from the Portuguese roster.
This decision came as no surprise, given that Portugal’s head coach Jorge Jesus had previously revealed the player was dealing with health issues.
“In the match against Wales, we used all available players, but Bruno Fernandes had to leave the field due to a serious problem. We’ll see how things develop by tomorrow. Experience shows that not all players recover fully by the third day, and this applies to both us and the Norway team.
Regarding Fernandes, treatment and recovery time are crucial. He recently recovered from an injury sustained at Manchester United and told me that he played the last three games while managing pain that hindered him.
This was one of the reasons he couldn’t perform at his best against Wales. I’ve already spoken with him and prefer not to take risks in this game so that he is fully ready for the match against Denmark,” Jesus explained.
While Manchester United would undoubtedly prefer Fernandes to recuperate at their Carrington training ground ahead of their fixture with Tottenham Hotspur in just under two weeks, Jesus’ comments suggest that the midfielder is expected to return to international duty during this extended club season break.
