Alphonso Davies: Advancing at World Cup Fulfills Our Dream
Canada’s national team captain Alfonso Davies reflected on his side’s victory over South Africa in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup. The only goal of the match came from Eustáquio during stoppage time.
“The ending was incredible. When we came onto the pitch, we needed energy, and I believe coach Jesse Mars made the right substitutions at the right moment to secure the win. Eustáquio delivered a fantastic shot into the corner… It was simply amazing. We’re thrilled and excited to continue in this tournament,” Davies said.
“This is our second consecutive World Cup, and the first one didn’t go exactly as planned. For most of us, this is a dream come true, and we want to keep this winning streak going and move forward.”
In the Round of 16, Canada will face either the Netherlands or Morocco.
“It all depends on us. We knew strong opponents were ahead. There are no limits to our potential. Our team has talented players and motivation. I think the next few days will be crucial for recovery and preparation for the Round of 16,” the player added.
