South Africa Coach Broos Praises Team’s Strong World Cup Performance
South Africa’s head coach Hugo Broos reflected on his team’s 0-1 defeat to Canada, marking his final match in professional football.
“It was a tough game, but I anticipated that after analyzing our opponents. They have two key strengths: power and speed. We hoped to counter those, but it didn’t always work,” Broos told FIFA in an interview.
“You could see moments in the match where we struggled, especially in duels and one-on-one situations, where we often came up short. In South Africa, we need to focus on improving strength and speed.”
Broos admitted the loss was painful, as the team had aimed for victory. “It’s disappointing, but on the other hand, we have to be honest — we performed very well at the World Cup. We reached the knockout stage.”
The 74-year-old coach said he would cherish his memories of the tournament. “For me as a coach, this was a very enjoyable experience. We did a great job.”
