Carragher: Liverpool Suffers Most from Manchester City’s FFP Breach Scandal
Jamie Carragher, former defender of Liverpool, has claimed that Manchester City‘s manipulations deprived the Reds of the chance to win trophies. It was previously confirmed that City violated financial fair play regulations from 2009 to 2018.
“I feel sorry for the City players. They will almost have the feeling that a significant part of their careers will be marked with an asterisk, or that many will call it fiction,” Carragher said in an interview with Sky Sports. “Players were told everything was fine, that they would never be held accountable. What the management is saying now is just manipulation.
I believe that Man City’s titles should be annulled. Whether other clubs receive those titles is probably another question. City has damaged not only their own players.
I don’t look at medals years later, but moments and feelings come to mind. Liverpool players will never experience that feeling; City took it away from them. No one remembers medals. Returning trophies or medals means nothing. It’s not about the medals, but about the emotions.
Liverpool is probably the biggest loser in this entire story. That’s why the atmosphere in the upcoming match against City will be intense. Over the past five years, Liverpool vs. City matches have been the ‘main events’ in the Premier League.”
