Cristiano Ronaldo Leaves Portugal Camp, Citing Limited Team Benefit
Portugal national team head coach Jorge Jesus confirmed his plan to rotate the squad during a demanding run of four matches in eleven days, announcing that Gonçalo Ramos would start against Denmark. Having been left out of the lineup for the previous game against Norway and upon learning of the coach’s decision, the 41-year-old striker chose to leave the team just before the pre-match training session and issued an official statement.
“I have given my all for Portugal for over twenty years and have always respected the decisions of the coaching staff. However, at this stage in my career, I need to clearly understand my role within the squad and feel mutual respect for my experience. Given the current circumstances, I believe that my presence in the national team camp would not benefit the team ahead of this crucial match. I wish the lads and the coaching staff every success in the upcoming game against Denmark,” the forward wrote.
